Video Gallery: Matt Owen represents England in Switzerland.
The West Hill Kyokushinkai Karate Club would like to give a big congratulation to Matt Owen and Mollie Milton who travelled to Switzerland last weekend to represent England. Matt fought hard and came third in his category, while Mollie was unfortunately knocked out in the semi-finals due to a judges decision.

England Clicker squad training at Bexhill.
Would all members of the The West Hill Kyokushinkai Karate Club please be aware that a England Clicker squad training session will be held at the Bexhill Dojo on 5th April between 11:00am and 2:00pm. It’s open to all blue belts aged sixteen and above and is a great opportunity to train with one of the best Clicker instructors in the country. Please try to attend.
Congratulations to everyone who graded.
The West Hill Kyokushinkai Karate Club would like to give a big congratulations to everyone who passed their grading with Shihan David Pickthall on the 20th December, including the junior and senior Blue Belts who earned their 7th Kyu’s, the hard working senior yellow belts who received their green belts and Dave who did a terrific job to get his 1st Kyu.
Everyone worked extremely hard and did a fantastic job representing the club as they attained their new grades and belts.
Notice: Saturday session to close.
Over the last six months there has been a considerable drop in the number of juniors attending the Saturdays sessions at the West Hill Karate Kyokushinkai Club. As a result, the junior fees do not cover the ever increasing gym hire and although we have tried to recruit new members, this has been unsuccessful. Consequently, it is with great regret that we have had to make the difficult decision to close the Saturday session.
However, this is not the end of the Westhill Junior Club. As you may be aware, over three quarters of the juniors already train on a Monday night. Blue belts and above have always been welcome and gain valuable experience training along side the seniors. We would like them to continue training on the Monday sessions from 8.00pm-9.30pm. (If this is too late they can leave at 9pm).
The white belts and red belts will also have their session on Monday nights starting from 6.45pm sharp until 7.45pm. As this is before the senior session, it will enable us to have more qualified instructors on hand to teach the juniors, benefiting them in the long run.
Older red belts will be able to continue through to the senior sessions if they would like to (see Senpai Leeann) and all juniors blue belts and above can train in both sessions, with the red and white belts and then with the seniors if they wish.
This will take effect from 1st April 2009 and the last Saturday session will be 28th March 2009.
As always if you have any questions please come and see Senpai Leeann at the club or contact us by clicking here.
Congratulations Dwayne and Senpai Lucy!
The West Hill Karate Kyokushinkai Club would like to congratulate Dwayne Sutton and Senpai Lucy Wilson for their sterling performance at the National Kata Tournament in Milton Keynes on Saturday 7th March. Senpai Lucy entered the senior woman’s Black Belt category where she used two strong katas to get into the final where she took on last years winner from Switzerland and went home with a very respectable third place. Dwayne Sutton meanwhile took part in the combined men and women’s Blue Belt category where he worked hard and took home a fantastic first place in his very first Kyokushinkai tournament.
Joshua Marketis and George Hustwayte also joined our team, entering the men’s Brown Belt and Yellow Belt categories respectively. Each performed to the best of their ability, but were unfortunately knocked out in the second of the three rounds. All the competitors wish to thank the help, support and encouragement they received at the club and we hope to see many more club members at the tournament next year.
Notice: Saturday 7th March closure.
Would all members of the West Hill Karate Kyokushinkai Club please take note that the dojo will be closed on Saturday 7th March to all juniors, as many of the clubs instructors and students will be at the National Kata Tournament in Milton Keynes to support our club.
If there are any questions or queries, do not hesitate to contact Sempai Leeann, the Club Secretary.
Thanks.
